The waterfall system has different levels and options of operation in which it seeks to reduce costs and optimize times.
Operation levels:
1st level: The systems tries to match the origin and destination banks, if so the end customer will receive the funds within 15 minutes. The transfer type is standard.
2nd level: The system will look in your associated accounts searching for those with the instant payment option enabled. As in the previous level, the end customer will have the funds within 15 minutes and the transfer type is instant.
3rd level: The system issues an ordinary transfer from an account defined as default. In this case, the transfer is usually credited to the end customer's account the next business day. This level is optional.
